A young man named Sam, coming out of a troubled background, is given the responsibility of escorting a beautiful, but strange girl, Sarah, who was struck mute by some unknown trauma.  Sam committed an illegal, offensive prank after-hours at his school and has the choice of either the humiliating duty of chaperoning the odd girl Sarah or going to a juvenile facility.  Gradually, Sam finds himself drawn to this silent, enigmatic girl.  When she is violently kidnapped, Sam feels compelled to track her, solve the mystery of the disappearance, and to come to grips with aspects of his own mixed-up life.  With no money and only his wits, he must travel into the heart of the Alaskan Bush and grapple with death, evil, his own spirituality, and what he truly believes.  A Native shaman guides him in self-discovery.  Ultimately, Sam faces his own death and must decide whether or not he is willing- for the sake of a love he doesn't even understand- to put his soul and his life on the line.
